About Business

Many occupations today revolve around business and Lakeshore offers a leading program in which to gain the necessary skills for these careers Introduction to Business, Introduction to Computer, Law, Marketing, Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Yearbook, Keyboarding, and Computer Applications are great courses for those who want to pursue a business profession.

In these courses, students learn such things as computer languages and programming, layout and design, graphics programs, scanning techniques, and desktop publishing as well as various aspects of the criminal justice system.

Many students who take our business courses become successful business people in fields such as Computer Programming, Graphic Design, Accounting, and Law.

Course List Introduction to Information Technology in Business

Introduction to Information Technology in Business Grade 9, Open Course (BTT 1O1)

Some of the topics include: business software competencies in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, desktop publishing and electronic slide show presentations. The course also includes techniques for powerful research using advanced internet tools, an exploration of how computers work and an overview of proper ergonomics. Students will also develop their keyboarding skills.

Introduction to Business Grade 10, Open Course (BBI 2O1)

This course familiarizes students with the world of business. Personal finance, entrepreneurship, international business and e-commerce are some of the topics covered. Students will also participate in a stock market competition in which they will act as an investor with the potential to win real cash prizes if their portfolio is successful.

Introduction to Accounting Grade 11, Workplace Course (BAI 3E1)

Students study various types of businesses and the ways in which accounting procedures are applied. Students will learn how to record transactions, prepare financial statements, analyze cash management, credit sales, collect debts and use accounting software.

Introduction to Retail and Services Marketing Grade 11, Workplace Course (BMX 3E1)

Students learn about the importance of customer service, analyze methods to maintain customer loyalty, examine ways to present products and learn about inventory control.

Information Technology Applications in Business Grade 11, Open Course (BTA 3O1)

Students will develop advanced information technology skills and knowledge required in a business by learning about the information technology work environment, use industry-standard software, conduct electronic research and create an e-commerce web-site.

Introduction to Entrepreneurial Studies Grade 11, College Course (BDI 3C1)

Students learn how to recognize business opportunities, generate ideas, and organize resources to plan successful ventures. Students create and run a small classroom-based business.

Introduction to Marketing Grade 11, College Course (BMI 3C1)

Students learn the fundamental concepts of marketing products and services. Students analyse buying patterns and the effect of marketing strategies and engage in marketing research. Students develop and present a marketing plan for a specific product.

Introduction to Financial Accounting Grade 11, College/University Course (BAF 3M1)

Students learn fundamental accounting principles and procedures used in service and merchandise businesses. Students learn about financial analysis, control and decision making in the management of a business. Accounting computer software is learned.

Accounting for a Small Business Grade 12, Workplace Course (BAN 4E1)

Students learn how accounting is practised in the workplace by acquiring an understanding of payroll systems, inventory, specialized journals, subsidiary ledgers, sales taxes and cash management. Students will use accounting software.

Entrepreneurial Studies Grade 12, College Course (BDV 4C1)

Venture PlanningStudents learn how to create a detailed business plan. Students learn how to start and manage a successful business by running a classroom-based business.

Information Technology in Business Grade 12, College Course (BTX 4C1)

Students learn advanced information technology skills in the preparation of business documents. Students study e-commerce and use current technology to create an e-commerce web-site. Project management and project team management strategies are emphasized and a team project is completed.

Principles of Financial Accounting Grade 12, College/University Course (BAT 4M1)

Students study accounting principles related to financial statements. Students learn how to make business decisions on the basis of financial statement information. Students study inventory and asset valuation, as well as the different means of financing a business. Computerized accounting systems are studied.

Introduction to International Business Grade 12, College/University Course (BBB 4M1)

Students learn the importance of international business and trade in the global economy, and explore the factors that influence success in international markets. Students learn the techniques and strategies associated with marketing, distribution, and managing an international business.
