Lakeshore Artificial Turf Field

The TDSB has concluded a lease with Nustadia Recreation Inc (NRI) to install and operate an artificial grass field inside the existing track at Lakeshore CI. Construction is expected to commence the week of May 9, 2011 and the field will be ready for use by August 1, 2011. Fill removed from the site of this new turf installation will be distributed on site at the area north of the track and Gus Ryder Pool parking lot and will be reseeded. This area will be available for the school to use as a secondary playing field in September 2011.

The inflatable dome structure component of the project has been deferred to a future Phase 2 due to challenges in securing project financing. Timing for Phase 2 is currently unknown. Once NRI has arranged Phase 2 project financing, Board staff will invite the community to a meeting to discuss the logistics and timing for this work.

Lakeshore Field Dome Update

On February 8, Ward 3 Trustee Pamela Gough led a community meeting to present plans and receive input for a potential new artificial turf field and seasonal dome structure on the Lakeshore CI (LCI) field. You can see the presentation online at:

A public-private partnership has been determined to be the most cost-effective way for the TDSB to create a championship field with the potential to serve LCI, other schools, and community sports clubs. The field will be an ideal venue for events and tournaments in soccer, lacrosse, ultimate frisbee, football, flag football, cricket, and more.

Since that community meeting, the proposed field operator has asked for an extension to secure financing for the project. Plans are proceeding to install the artificial turf field before the end of June. When financing has been secured we expect that the dome and field house portions of the project will proceed.  You can keep up to date on the status of this project by visiting Trustee Gough’s web site at www.tdsb.on.ca/wwwdocuments/trustees/ward_3 (click on What’s happening in Ward 3) and the LCI school web site: www.lakeshorecollegiate.ca.
